Where Should I Start?

This is the most common question asked when deciding to make changes in your home and start a remodeling project. Roeser Home Remodeling and many companies like ours that have been in the industry for a long time, will always suggest you start by selecting a remodeling company, a contractor, first. A professional remodeling contractor can walk you through the process and help you design a project to meet your needs and budget.

Have Fun! Remodeling can be exciting. It is a creation that will change your lifestyle and provide you with years of enjoyment. It should be enjoyed... even the messy parts of it make great stories and memories!

Select your project: Walk around your house, make notes, imagine and brainstorm ideas that will most fit your needs. Make list of priorities, definite needs. Make a wish list, a want list.

Plan: What are the details you looking for and what are you trying to accomplish with your project? Look through magazines for styles and features you like. Make sure you tear out the page and mark what it is that caught your attention when you saw it. Make notes on the little things that are driving you crazy with your current situation. Are you looking for more privacy or do you want the room to be open and visible to all the other rooms. Are you looking for an area of study, do you need more storage? Do you have frequent guest? Or do you want an area to entertain more? Write it all down.

Design: What styles do you like? Again, back to the magazines or take pictures of features in houses, even stores that you are drawn to. Define your style.

Budget: This isn't as difficult as it sounds. Keep in mind your home value in comparison to homes in your neighborhood. Consider the personal value you will get out of the project and decide how much you are really willing to spend to make improvements on your home. Know how you plan to pay for your remodel, whether it is out of money you have saved or financing through a home equity loan; this can and should be discussed with your remodeling contractor. Professional contractors can guide you and help you design a project within that budget. Knowing your budget will help you and the contractor keep a focus on priorities and not waste time with designs that go past your budget. Defining your budget is important for you and your contractor.

Time Frame: Define your time frame. How soon will you be ready to begin construction? When would you like to have it completed? Are there any holidays or entertaining activities that you have planned? All these should be considered and discussed with your contractor.
